On Wednesday November 20th 1996, Crowded House performed the first of their "warm up" shows to a fan club audience in the Corner Hotel, Melbourne. That afternoon, a soundcheck was done, some fans were invited inside to watch (see the Channel7 Witness show). Most of us who did manage to get in were subscribers to the Tongue in the Mail, the Crowded House internet Mailserv.
